Downtown Memorial Park was the chilly site of the 2026 Easter Egg Hunt. Easter Sunday presented as overcast, 44 degrees and breezy but that did not stop Marie Casey and the Village Pump Family from spreading 100’s of eggs on to the park lawn. Island Families and visitors began to line up on the sidewalk awaiting the arrival ofthe Easter Bunny! Many of the families attending were generational to Kelleys Island. What a joy to share this event with their children, and grandchildren! The smiles on everyone’s faces told the story of memories past and new memories being made.
As the time drew near for the hunt to begin, children finished posing for pictures with the Easter Bunny and took their places along the sidewalk edging the lawn. First were the little ones, 6 years old and under! They took off running to claim as many candy filled eggs as they could before the older children came out! Next the 7- to 10-year-olds and then the 11and over age group were off and running! It literally took minutes for the eggs to be collected by all the eggcited children! The next part of the hunt was the best, opening the eggs to see what delicious candy was inside, and perhaps trading with friends to get your favorites! After that monumental task was complete the now empty plastic eggs were happily returned to the Easter Bunny who collected them in giant plastic bins to be used again for next year’s Easter Egg Hunt! After last minute pictures with the Easter Bunny and friends, families rushed to escape the cold and continue their Easter Sunday at home or at The Village Pump.
