Fire on the Island

Monday – April 4 – The fire call came in at 8:56 about a fire at 932 W Lakeshore, home of Bill & June Campbell. It was called in by a neighbor and sirens were heard almost immediately. Photos show that by 9:09, the Fire Dept. was already on the scene. The fire, which started in the kitchen, had broken through the roof in the back of the house and just 5 minutes later, had spread almost across the entire rear of the second floor. Hoses were run to the back of the building, but to assure that enough water was available, two 500 gal. pumps were put into the lake. While the fire was under control pretty quick, the Fire Dept remained on the scene for several hours to assure that the smoldering areas did not catch fire again.

Thanks to the Danbury Fire Dept. which sent a truck and three firemen to assist. The family was not at home at the time, and expressed their appreciation to their Island community for the outreach of sympathies and assistance. Temporary housing has been arranged while they decide what they will be doing with the site. June says she hopes to rebuild as the Island is her home.
