Visitors and residents in the Lakeside-Marblehead area now have a new option for golf cart sales, rentals, and service with the arrival of Sandusky Bay Carts.
The company opened its newest location in May at the former Fire Station building, located at 150 Bridge Road (State Route 269), after reaching a lease agreement with Terry Properties. The expansion comes after a successful year of operations in Sandusky and reflects growing demand for golf cart transportation throughout Ottawa County’s vacation and resort communities.
Owner Kerry McCullough said the decision to establish a location north of the Sandusky Bay bridge was driven by both customer demand and changing transportation conditions in the area.
“When the state and Marblehead worked together to reduce the speed limit along State Route 163 to 35 miles per hour, it just made sense,” McCullough said. “We wanted to better serve vacationers traveling to the islands, East Harbor, Lakeside, and Marblehead.”
Sandusky Bay Carts offers a variety of services, including golf cart sales, rentals, maintenance, and repairs. The company specializes in electric golf carts and works with StarEV, a manufacturer based in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Customers can also take advantage of the company’s “Rent on Demand” program, which allows users to rent carts through a mobile app by simply scanning and riding.
In addition to rentals and sales, Sandusky Bay Carts provides consignment services for owners looking to sell their carts. McCullough said the goal is to create a trusted marketplace where buyers can find quality used carts and sellers can gain greater exposure than they might receive through online listings alone.
“We want to be the place people think of when they’re looking for a quality used cart,” McCullough said. “Consignment helps sellers reach more buyers while giving customers confidence that they’re purchasing a dependable vehicle.”
The company has also developed a reputation for its expertise in lithium battery conversions. While lithium technology continues to grow in popularity among golf cart owners, McCullough cautions that proper system compatibility is critical.
“It’s not just plug and play,” he said. “There are many factors involved in choosing the right battery for a golf cart. If the controller isn’t designed to handle what the battery is producing, it can create performance issues, affect warranties, and potentially damage other components.”
Another feature that sets Sandusky Bay Carts apart is its commitment to customer service after the sale. McCullough said that every cart sold by the company is backed by access to a loaner cart should service or repairs become necessary, helping customers stay mobile while their vehicle is being worked on.
Sandusky Bay Carts operates seven days a week and plans to offer limited winter storage services for customers during the off-season.
