Kelleys Island was buzzing with excitement this past weekend as movie lovers from near and far gathered for the highly anticipated Kelleys Island FilmFest. This year’s theme, Classic 80s Throwbacks, turned the downtown park into a time machine, transporting audiences back to an era of big hair, neon colors, and unforgettable film moments.
From the first flicker of the projector to the last credits rolling under the starry Lake Erie sky, the weekend was nothing short of magical. Crowds settled into lawn chairs and picnic blankets, popcorn in hand, ready to relive their favorite scenes from some of the most beloved movies of the 1980s. The laughter, cheers, and even a few happy tears proved that these timeless films still hold a special place in our hearts.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Sponsors
Events like the FilmFest are only possible because of the incredible generosity and support of our community partners. A special thanks goes to Shores & Islands and Hancock Wood Electric for their generous sponsorships that help keep this tradition alive and thriving.
We are also grateful to our movie sponsors, whose contributions brought the films to life on the big screen: Crooked Tree Vineyard, The Kelleys Island General Store, and Seaway Marina. Your support not only made the event possible but also added to the charm and warmth that makes FilmFest such a unique experience.
Community Collaboration at Its Finest
A big thank you is also due to the Village of Kelleys Island for allowing us the use of the park. This beautiful, central location is the perfect backdrop for outdoor movies, and the cooperation and hospitality from the village make the event seamless and welcoming for both islanders and visitors alike.
A Weekend to Remember
The combination of warm summer nights, the smell of fresh popcorn, and the glow of the screen against the island sky created a setting that was nothing short of cinematic. Families laughed together, friends shared snacks and stories, and new connections were made among the crowd.
As the credits rolled on the final film of the weekend, there was a shared sense of gratitude — for the movies, for the sponsors, and for the community that makes Kelleys Island FilmFest such a special tradition year after year.
