KILA Korner

Spring is here, and we are ready to start the season with a party!

The Kelleys Island Landowners Association (KILA) is hosting the annual Welcome Potluck on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the VFW Pavilion from 5-7. Everyone is welcome! KILA will provide the meat, table service, ice tea, and water. Please bring a dish to share and soft drinks. The VFW is providing a bartender for the purchase of beer (Ohio law only permits alcoholic beverages purchased from an establishment that possesses a liquor license be consumed on their premises, so alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the VFW). We hope to see you there!

A new slate of officers of the KILA Board of Directors was appointed last fall. They are: Jim Coleman, President, Melanie Bates, Vice President, Drew Algase, Treasurer, and Jennifer Pieratt, Secretary. In addition, Candy Puma-Volz was appointed membership chair. KILA also appointed two new members to the Board of Directors: Jim Pijor and Holly Miller.

To learn more about KILA, go to our website www.kila.rocks. To pay your annual dues, please see the ad and application in this issue of Life on Kelleys. You may mail in a check or pay by PayPal or Zelle. Renewals are $20 and new member dues are $25. KILA meets on the third Saturday of the month during the season through October at Estes School at 10. All are welcome to attend.

KILA’s Board of Directors is in the process of accepting and reviewing proposals for supporting projects that improve and enhance life on our beautiful island. Most recently at the April 18, 2026 meeting the Board of Directors voted to donate $2000 to the Kelleys Island Field Station as our first donation of 2026. Congratulations to Jackie Taylor and the Field Station!

Plans for the 52nd Homecoming festival and parade are underway, and it will take place August 7-8. Good news from our friends at Shores & Islands Ohio – they awarded KILA a $1000 reimbursement grant for sponsorship of Homecoming. This grant in part helps support the transportation of the Edison High School Marching Band that provides entertainment during the Homecoming parade and after the parade at the Community Pavilion. KILA very much appreciates the support Shores and Islands Ohio continues to give our organization over the years.

We hope to see many of you on May 16 at the VFW and look forward to another great season on Kelleys Island.
